Wrong phone numbers and opening hours on Google quietly cost businesses customers every day. A person calls a closed shop, or an old number that nobody answers, and leaves a bad review. This guide shows how to update both safely.
Change the phone number
- Search your business name while signed in to the Google account that manages it, or open Business Profile Manager.
- Click Edit profile and open Business information, then Contact.
- Update the primary phone. Add an additional number if you have one.
- Add the website link. Use a page that loads fast and matches the business.
- Under chat or messaging, add your WhatsApp link if you want customers to message you.
- Save. Google may mark the edit as pending.
Use the same number on your website, social pages and directories. Different numbers in different places confuse customers and weaken local SEO signals.
Change opening hours
- Open Business information, then Hours.
- Pick the correct option: open with main hours, no main hours, temporarily closed or permanently closed.
- Set each day. Mark days closed instead of leaving old hours. A business that is "open 24 hours" by mistake is a common error.
- Add special hours for festivals and holidays.
- Save and check the pending status.
How long until it shows?
Many edits appear within minutes, but some need Google review and may take longer, up to a few days. While an edit is pending the profile may show the old and new values side by side to you. Do not keep re-entering the same change; wait and check again.
If the edit does not appear
- Check that you are signed in to the account that owns the profile, since many people manage several accounts.
- Look for a pending badge, a rejected edit or a message asking for re-verification.
- Clear cache or view the listing in a private window to see the public version.
- Check for a duplicate listing that shows older information.
- Make sure the edit follows guidelines: no extra words in the name and no promotional text in fields.
Avoid triggering re-verification
Trade reports such as this one on Search Engine Roundtable say small changes like categories or phone numbers can sometimes prompt re-verification. To reduce risk, plan edits together, avoid unnecessary changes and keep a note of what you changed and when.
Update other places too
- Your website footer, contact page and schema.
- Bing Places, which can import from Google.
- Facebook, Instagram, Justdial, IndiaMART and other directories.
