Facebook and Instagram Ads Setup Guide for Indian Businesses (Pixel, Conversions API, WhatsApp)

Set up Meta ads properly: business assets, Pixel and Conversions API, audiences, creatives, lead forms and click-to-WhatsApp campaigns.

Facebook and Instagram ads can bring leads at a reasonable cost, but only if the foundation is right. A common story is a business that boosts a few posts, gets likes instead of customers and then gives up. This guide covers a proper setup.

Step 1: Set up your Meta business assets

  • A Facebook Page for the business with logo, cover, contact details and a clear description.
  • An Instagram professional account connected to the Page.
  • A Meta Business Suite or Business Portfolio that owns the Page and ad account, so you are not dependent on one personal profile.
  • An ad account with the correct currency, time zone and payment method.
  • Two-factor authentication on every admin to protect against hacks.

Step 2: Install the Meta Pixel and Conversions API

The Pixel records what visitors do on your website, such as viewing a page, submitting a form or buying. The Conversions API sends similar events from your server, which can help when browsers block tracking. Together they help Meta measure results and find similar people. Test events before launching and avoid sending personal data you do not have consent for. See our privacy policy for how we treat data on our own site.

Step 3: Choose the right objective

  • Leads: instant forms or website forms.
  • Engagement with messages: click-to-WhatsApp or Messenger ads.
  • Sales: for online stores with purchase tracking.
  • Awareness or traffic: only when you have a reason and a way to measure it.

Avoid choosing engagement just to collect likes if you want enquiries.

Step 4: Build audiences

  • Location: city, radius or pincode. Do not target all of India for a local service.
  • Interests and behaviours: start broad and let Meta optimise once tracking works.
  • Custom audiences: website visitors, video viewers and your customer list (with consent).
  • Lookalikes: people similar to your best customers once you have enough data.

Step 5: Create ads that get attention

  • Lead with the customer's problem or a clear offer in the first line.
  • Use real photos and short vertical videos for Reels and Stories.
  • Show price, process or proof when you can.
  • Add a simple call to action: Send message, Get quote or Book now.
  • Test two or three creatives before scaling.

Step 6: Set up WhatsApp and lead follow-up

Click-to-WhatsApp ads work well in India because people prefer chatting. Prepare a greeting message and quick replies, and make sure someone answers within minutes. Leads from forms should reach a sheet or CRM instantly. Our CRM development can capture and assign Meta leads automatically.

Step 7: Stay within ad policies

  • No exaggerated or guaranteed income or results claims.
  • No before-and-after claims for restricted categories.
  • Landing pages must match the ad, load properly and show a privacy policy.
  • Use real business details and avoid sudden, unusual changes in spend.

If an ad account is restricted, check the account quality screen, correct the issue and submit a review request. Outcomes depend on Meta's decision.

Step 8: Measure and improve

  • Track cost per lead, cost per WhatsApp chat and cost per sale.
  • Give each test about a week or enough data before judging it.
  • Pause weak creatives, duplicate winners and refresh creatives every few weeks.
  • Compare lead quality, not only lead volume.
